Hi! How Ya Doin'?

Tim, Landon and I went to Akeley this weekend with my purses. It was Paul Bunyan days. Every time we head to that part of the country, (The general Walker area) I feel like we are entering "Minnesota Nice Country." Everyone, and I mean everyone, is so nice! (Not just the Walmart greeter who is getting paid to be nice.) They all say, "Hi! How ya doing'?" and they wave from their cars as we pass each other on the roads. We are learning to drive with our hand held up in the "hello" position at all times. Towards the end of the day a very well dressed, elderly lady approached my booth. Her hair was perfectly styled and she had several rocks on her fingers. She never said a word while she picked out FOUR purses. As I was bagging up her purses, she asked me how it was going. I was going to just reply, "Great!" (It was!) when I looked up at her and I realized that she really meant it. She really was interested in knowing "how it was going for me." Normally I hate when people judge others by their jobs, money, etc. and I hate to admit it, but when I saw her, I instantly judged her. She reminded me of the people who are nice in private, but once they are out in public and in their "circle," they won't give you so much as a nod. (Those people so need to get over themselves!)  So I told her that not only was I having a great day, but how impressed I was with how nice the people were. It was just so refreshing! As we got to talking, I mentioned how I had been to the area several times and had yet to encounter any type of snobbery. She said to me, "Oh, those kind of people just piss me off!" Then she told me she had to get over to the beer garden because it was almost time for her shift to start. Man, oh man. Did I ever peg that lady wrong. So, it is true....never judge a book by it's cover. What looks like a boring old, dusty novel, just might be the best, juiciest book you've read in a long time. Thanks for the eye opener lady, where ever you are....and by the way....I really am doing great!!

Butterfly Kisses

This sweet butterfly came back to my
purse booth several times throughout
the day while I was in Akeley.
When it landed on the little doll purse,
I just had to grab my camera.
Butterfly kisses.

Happy Father's Day Tim!

Tim and Landon decided to try a little fishing
 at their favorite fishing hole.

%$#@!

Walkin' in high cotton...
Check out all the cotton!
It looked like the cotten fairy had been there.

Softer than silk.

Scrooms?

I think this picture would make
an excellent jigsaw puzzle!

Ended the day with toasted Marshmallows.
Happy Father's Day Tim!

Where There's A Weed, There's A Way!

Tim and I have an agreement. I do the all the inside housework and he does all the outside housework. The only problem with this agreement is, I have to do the 3,224 things that are required to maintain a clean house and he thinks he only has to mow the grass or blow the snow once or twice a month, weather permitting. This causes a great deal of stress. For me. When I ask him no less than 2,456 times to take care of something outside and he responds with, "Yeah, yeah, yeah." it makes my blood boil. The weeds around the house were growing half way up to the windows, and we have high windows! After asking 2,456 times, he decided to dump a little weed killer along a part of the fence. I won't even tell you what I thought about that. So, today I decided enough was enough. I was going to learn how to use the weed eater and take matters into my own hands. So, I went outside and checked out the weeds first. They were beyond weed eating. Those bad boys needed to be ripped out by the roots by hand! So, that's what I did. I got down on my hands and knees and pulled weeds. For hours. By hand. I used muscles I didn't even know I had. I think I might even be ready to go sleeveless now. Maybe. Anyway, while I was doing this, I couldn't help but notice that the bottom, cement portion of our house is only painted on three sides! (It's amazing what a difference the view is when you are on your hands and knees.) But, what the heck? That was painted at least two years ago! How could I not notice that? (I suppose all those weeds might have been covering it.) So, then I started to look around. Really look around. I started to notice all kinds of things that needed attention. So, I then informed Tim, (Yes, I informed him. I am not asking anymore. It's called tough love, baby!) that every night after work this week, "we" would be tackling at least one or two of those projects. You can about imagine the happy response this brought. Now, don't go feeling all sorry for Tim. These are things he should have been taking care of all along, and I am even going to help him! But, tonight when he lays his head down on his pillow, there isn't a doubt in my mind that he will be thinking to himself, "Why didn't I just pull the $#@! weeds???" Live and learn baby, live and learn.

Weed is not for me.

I worked so hard,
I blew out a glove!

Strawberries

Landon found a few ripe
 strawberries in the garden today!

Hot Wheels!

I had to make a Walmart run this morning. I know. I know. You would think after last week, I wouldn't need to go for at least another year! But, it wasn't meant to be. Anyway, as I was turning down an aisle with my cart, I noticed a little old lady driving one of those handicap scooters. So, I quickly backed up and parked my cart in the end aisle. As I was walking back down the aisle sans cart, I couldn't help but laugh as I approached the little old lady. She wasn't a "little old lady" after all. She was my YOUNG friend, Pam! (I wear glasses for distance. Didn't have them on and Pam does NOT look old at all!)
I asked her what in the world was she doing on the old lady scooter? She told me she had fallen off her four wheeler and broke her leg!
I hope you had better luck on the Wally World Wheels, Pam!
(For the record, I did warn her not to pop any wheelies!)

My Ah Ha Moment

I shop alone. This is nothing new. I am sure I have posted about it before. Tim doesn't go shopping with me much anymore as I can leave at 7:00 A.M. and not come back until Midnight. Tim thinks it's a waste of time. To me, it's not a waste of time and is actually a very good stress reliever. For those few hours I don't have to think about anyone or anything. It's wonderful. Now it doesn't mean that I am "buying" the entire time. I can go into any Walmart for three hours and come out with only a cart full of groceries. I like to browse, and that takes time. It's a girl thing. Yesterday though, I had an "Ah Ha" moment. I had gone to Wahpeton to Walmart to get groceries. I went in at 12:20 and came out at 2:40! Almost two and a half hours. I swear it seemed like twenty minutes. But, as I was driving home, it hit me. I had just worked out for two and a half hours! Not only was I walking the entire time, I was pushing a twenty to thirty pound cart! So, it wasn't a complete waste of time. It was actually a good thing! I've got to tell Tim. Maybe he will start shopping with me again. Maybe.

Mother Knows Best

Landon is a worker. A hard worker. He is not afraid to roll up his sleeves and do whatever it takes to get the job done. As long as you pay him. His Grandpa Laurel, used to pay him to help him with his yard work and his garden and fish pond. He put in many long, hard hours and came home a tired, but happy little rich boy! I am very proud of him and certainly happy that he has learned that hard work pays off. The problem is, he has come to expect to be paid for everything! If I asked him to clean up his room, he says "I'll do it for five bucks." Then I have to give him a little "Father Knows Best" speech. You know, "Son, sometimes we have to do things we don't want to do,... blah...blah...blah....." It gets really old and I am tired of it. Today though, I think I came up with the perfect answer. Landon got a funny little look on his face, then it seemed to sink in and he walked away and never said a word. I had asked him to put all the Day Care toys on the sidewalk so his dad could mow the grass. He ran right outside and did it. When he came back in the house, he said to me,
"Do I get five bucks?" I said, "No." He said, "Well, what do I get?"
My perfect answer?
I said to him, "You get to live here."
